Tremble before the glory! The Whims of the Gods looks and sounds monumental ahead of Gamescom and PAX West!

The Whims of the Gods takes the well-known perspective of being a god in a city-builder game and adds a fresh, modern twist to it. The gameplay is built around the cooperation of two player-controlled rulers, each having the freedom to choose their duties in a thriving, ancient city. Regardless of their chosen role, objectives and goals will be common e.g. increasing the population or developing certain technologies. The game will offer both online co-op.

The developers released new screenshots from the game and also announced that Patryk Scelina will be working on the soundtrack (which you can already hear in the trailer above!). His soundtrack can be heard in several video games (Kao the Kangaroo, GORD, My Memory of Us, SlavicPunk Oldtimer) and TV/streaming series. For The Whims of the Gods he decided to mix a modern approach with ethnic sounds, using traditional instruments of the mesoamerican cultures. The new soundtrack uses Aztec flutes and the death whistle, combined with ethnic drums and mallets that sound similar to marimbas, but more raw and dirty.

The Whims of the Gods will be available for playtesting at Gamescom (Hall 10.2, booth E-069) and PAX West (at Fundacja Indie Games Polska booth, next to the PAX Rising Showcase).

🌋 Two pairs of hands – The Whims of the Gods relies on two players jointly transforming a village into a big city. Each of them has different tasks and tools, but they share a common goal.

🌋 Making lives better – as rulers of a small village, players will have to make every effort to fulfill the needs of their citizens. The challenge will lie in constructing additional buildings to satisfy such needs and ensure their well-being.

🌋 Divine assistance from above – elaborate religion and faith mechanics will allow players to turn to the gods to receive helpful blessings and trade for resources.

🌋 Like clockwork – players will learn about the future from a calendar predicting upcoming events, such as monster attacks, natural disasters, bountiful harvests, and much more. This will inform them to prepare for both the good and bad things.

🌋 How will it all end? – depending on the course of the gameplay, players will be able to unlock different endings, making The Whims of the Gods a game worth revisiting.

The Whims of the Gods is being developed for PC, and will be available on Steam. Players intrigued by this cooperative city-builder can already add the game to their wishlist.
